General information about Chardham tour package
Also known as Devbhoomi or the Land of the Gods, Uttarakhand is home to many temples and welcomes devotees all year round. Among the countless religious places and circles that devotees visit in Uttarakhand, Char Dham Yatra is one of the best known. This yatra or pilgrimage is a journey through four sacred places: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, perched high in the Himalayas. In Hindi, "char" means four and "dham" refers to religious purposes.
The high-rise shrines are closed for about six months each year, opening in the summer (April or May) and closing with the onset of winter (October or November). The Char Dham Yatra is believed to be completed clockwise. Thus, the pilgrimage begins at Yamunotri, continues at Gangotri, Kedarnath and finally ends at Badrinath. Travel can be by road or air (helicopter services are available). Some devotees even make a Do Dham Yatra or make pilgrimages to two shrines: Kedarnath and Badrinath.
Located in a narrow gorge near the source of the Yamuna River (the second holiest river in India after the Ganges) in Uttarkashi district, Yamunotri Temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. The Uttarkashi district is also home to Gangotri, dedicated to the goddess Ganga, the holiest of all Indian rivers. In Rudraprayag district is Kedarnath, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Badrinath, home to the sacred temple of Badrinarayan, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Char Dham Yatra is as divine as it is exhausting, but it fills the soul!

Chardham Yatra Opening and Closing Dates 2024
When I visited Chardham, I was usually engaged between April and early November. Every year, the government of Uttarakhand announces the Chardham yatra opening and closing dates 2023 of the Chardham circuit, thus starting the process of booking a Chardham package with various OTAs.
During the winter months, the deity of each of these shrines moves to its winter quarters. Ukhimath for Kedarnath, Joshimath for Badrinath, Mukhba for Gangotri and Kharsali for Yamunotri. The doors of these winter quarters remain open all year round and can be visited at leisure. At the end of any of the Chardham tour packages, make sure that it includes a visit to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

The best time to go to Chardham yatra tour
Created by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century, the Chota Chardham circuit includes Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. April to early June is the perfect time to visit Chardham yatra as temperatures are tolerable and it is possible to explore and travel without getting cold feet or chattering teeth.
